BREWERY LANE THEATRE: Robert Power - "A Story of Destiny"

Friday 9th & Saturday 10th February 2018 / 8:30pm

A Story Of Destiny, written and performed by local man Robert Power, is a one-act psychological thriller, with a splash of dark comedy, set in an institution. The story surrounds the murder of a young woman and the existence of a man who claims his exile for the crime is not at all what it seems. Themes of the play include love, loss, revenge and the nature of humanity. There is particular focus on the fragility of the mind, it’s capacity to reach for the beauty in life and also, in an instant, plummet to the depths of despair. Having had its première at Under St. Marks in Greenwich Village, New York City earlier this year, the piece has now evolved from a minimalist work into an exciting full scale production which promises to entertain, engage and, who knows, perhaps even enlighten.

The performances will begin at 8.30pm, Tickets cost €12.00 and are available from the Tudor Artisan Hub. Seating unassigned.

Tuesday 13 February 2018 / 8:15pm

The Florida Project is a 2017 American drama film directed by Sean Baker, from a screenplay by Baker and Chris Bergoch. It stars Willem Dafoe, Brooklynn Prince, Bria Vinaite, Valeria Cotto, Christopher Rivera, and Caleb Landry Jones. The plot follows a 6-year-old girl living in a motel with her rebellious mother in Orlando as they try to stay out of trouble and make ends meet; the title of the film is derived from the early project name for the Walt Disney World Resort, located near the setting of the film.

It premièred in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 6, 2017, by A24. The film received acclaim from critics, being praised for its performances (particularly Dafoe's) and Baker's direction, and was chosen by both the National Board of Review and American Film Institute as one of the top 10 films of the year.

See what is on in Carrick-on-Suir to celebrate Culture Night - Friday 22 September 2017 - all events FREE

Starting at 2pm-4pm -

There is a Community Art Installation Project, from the River Suir to Ormond Castle.

The Tudor Artisan Hub is producing a joint Culture Night art installation project with LIT, Clonmel on Friday 22nd September 2pm-4pm – under the title “Walk a mile in my shoes”. This is an exciting 2-hour community event, which will create a ½ mile installation of shoes both in Clonmel and in Carrick-on- Suir. In Carrick on Suir the ½ mile walk/installation will take place from the River Suir towards the Ormond Castle/Tudor Manor House. Anyone can take part. Each person/group/business/school is asked to donate and artistically decorate shoes which symbolises themselves or to represent someone they know/used to know/a celebrity. The outside of the shoe represents what we show to the world whilst the inside shows what we keep hidden. This event will end with a short talk, refreshments and music. LIT Students will take photographs and video the event to capture the overall event as well as the individual stories of the shoes. These will be shared at the end of the walk. Follow Hub facebook page or call into the Hub for more details

To celebrate Culture Night, the Tudor Artisan Hub will be screening 2 new short films produced entirely from the Hub.  There will be 2 screenings of each film, 5pm and 6pm. BOOKING ADVISED call 051 640921 to book your space.

The 2 young emerging film-makers Rehan Ali (19) and Patrice Cooney (22) are no strangers to making films together....this time they have gone their separate ways....The theme for both short films was 'Shoes'

Rehan opted to write a psychological thriller short titled 'Soles' that sees a young actress entering the world of theatre only to crumble into that very universe. This student film will leave you asking what is real and what is only a fragment of your imagination menacingly toying with your mind and the fabric of your inner being...The lead actress in 'Soles' is Aileen O'Keeffe, with Will McLellan and Anne Howard and the main setting was in Brewery Lane Theatre, Carrick-on-Suir. This is Rehan's first solo film, he always had a passion to make a psychological thriller short and thanks to Culture Night and the Tudor Artisan Hub we were able to make this happen!

Patrice opted to write a zany comedic story titled 'Tall Tales' which tells the story about a group of teens who when walking behind the Ormond Castle, Carrick-on-Suir find a single, new, dress shoe in the brush. They each take turns coming up with stories as to how the shoe ended up far in the woods, each more eccentric and dramatic than the last. Who really lost this expensive shoe? Are they anything like any of the stories the group fantasize? Are they coming back to get it? " The Cast of 'Tall Tales' include Tadhg McLoughlin, Breege Phelan, Liam Hogan, Will McLellan and Corey O'Dwyer (Corey and Tadhg both featured in 'Torn' 1916 short film produced by the Hub 2016). This is Patrice's first comedy and was so much fun to make!! The Team in the Hub can't wait to screen it and share the fun with you all on Culture Night!

FROM 6.30-8.15PM

"Song of the Sea" tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse – the last Seal-child – who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land. The film is a production of Cartoon Saloon, Kilkenny and is directed by Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells). It features the voices of Brendan
Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny. Music is by composer Bruno Coulais and Irish band Kíla, both of whom previously collaborated on The Secret of Kells." Running Time: 94 minutes. NO BOOKING NECESSARY

Local artists transformed kitchen chairs into unique objet’s d’art based on Carrick-on- Suir’s rich heritage and culture. Local writers were then challenged to write a short story inspired by these unique artwork creations..The results were magical, uncanny, unearthing some amazing powerful connections! Come along, see and hear for yourself. BOOKING ADVISED call 051 640591 to book your space.
