Since the 1830’s the O’Shea family have farmed on the banks of the river Suir in Piltown, Co Kilkenny. In 1969 we were farming 195 acres and we currently farm over 1500 acres, with a mixture of dairy, cereals, carrots and potatoes. Our potatoes are available for twelve months of the year and our varieties include Home Guards, Queens, Rooster, Whites, Golden Wonders and Kerr’s Pink.

Iverk Produce was established in 1980 by the O’Shea family to supply high quality fresh fruit and vegetables to supermarkets, food wholesalers, restaurants, retail shops and catering services. Our team are dedicated to supplying top quality fresh produce throughout Ireland.

Iverk Produce was established in 1980 by the O’Shea family to market quality fresh fruit and vegetables across the south east. Since those early days the company has expanded but one thing remains the same – our dedication to quality produce and service. We also work with over forty growers in the south east of Ireland who supply us with a wide variety of fresh produce, such as early new season potatoes, cabbage, turnips, parsnips, broccoli, leeks, Brussels sprouts, apples, vine tomatoes, cauliflower, rhubarb, strawberries, iceberg lettuce, scallions, mushrooms, and fresh herbs to list but a few. Our staff run a high-volume pack house which specialises in packing and labelling fresh fruit and vegetables. We take great pride in our work and share a commitment to customer satisfaction, and a belief in the highest standards. Iverk Produce’s fresh fruit and vegetables can be purchased in Aldi and Supervalu stores nationwide. We also supply the wholesale/retail trade and food service sector across the south east region of Ireland.

In 1991 Iverk Produce formed a joint venture with Total Produce PLC, Europe’s largest distributor of fresh produce. Growing, sourcing, importing, packing, distributing and marketing over 200 lines of fresh fruits, vegetables and potatoes, the Total Produce group distributes some 300 million cartons of fresh produce to the retail, wholesale, foodservice and processing sectors across Europe and North America annually. Total Produce today operates out of 100 facilities across some 20 countries. From our base in Piltown Iverk Produce now supply over 750 retail stores nationwide with daily deliveries, making us one of Ireland’s largest distributors of fresh fruit and vegetables. Our produce ranges from Avocado to Zucchini, with the humble Spud still taking pride of place.

SUSTAINABILITY

As custodians of the land, we take our commitment to operating in a sustainable way very seriously. We have taken several initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment and improve our sustainability and overall energy efficiency.

The following are examples of some of the innovative initiatives we have undertaken:

  • INTEGRATED WETLAND WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

All of the waste water we produce is treated in our 13 acre Reed bed system. Reed beds are a natural, environmentally friendly, low energy, ecologically sustainable solution to the treatment of waste water.

  • PACKAGING

We have taken several measures to reduce our packaging waste, such as introducing reusable crates and pallets. All of our cardboard and plastic waste is segregated and recycled.

  • ENERGY CONSUMPTION

We have replaced our lighting with low energy lighting that only uses 30% of the energy of the old system. In October 2015 we installed over 1000 individual solar panels, which at the time was Ireland’s largest photovoltaic solar energy installation. The panels will generate about 210,000kw of electricity per year, which is enough to power up to 40 homes. The Solar project will go some distance to reducing our overall carbon footprint, and will provide us with sustainably produced electricity for up to 30 years.

  • O Shea Farms

The O Shea Family have a long history of farming on the banks of the river Suir in South Kilkenny.  We now farm approximately 1500 acres and while we specialise in producing top quality fresh Carrots and Potatoes, we also grow cereals and have a herd of spring calving British Friesian Jersey cross dairy cows.
